US Senate Confirms Tillerson As Secretary Of State

After the Senate had voted 56-43 to confirm Donald Trump's Secretary of State nominee Rex Tillerson, Greenpeace released a blistering statement that said Senators who voted to confirm Tillerson had left their spines at home. Orrin Hatch, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, on Wednesday made the move to sidestep Democrats by suspending committee rules on the number of members required to vote.

Israel: "In a major acceleration of new settlement construction plans, Israel has approved thousands more housing units in the occupied West Bank and, for the first time in years, has called for the establishment of an entire new settlement there".

But Democrats, livid about what they call Mr Trump's unconstitutional immigration action, were seeking to put up barriers to confirmation in order to debate the executive order, which bars U.S. entry for travellers from seven mainly Muslim countries for 90 days, and suspends all refugee arrivals for 120 days.

He'll have to work with a skeptical Trump on dealing with Russia's interference in the USA election. Tillerson's confirmation vote is scheduled for Wednesday.

It also said the rebels turned down the government's offer to cease fire to allow the removal of the dead and wounded. A recent surge in fighting in eastern Ukraine has both Russian Federation and Ukraine pointing fingers at each other.

Mark Warner has also voted for all of Trump's cabinet nominees so far.

Republican senators delay a committee vote on Trump's pick to head the Environmental Protection Agency, after Democrats boycott the meeting, saying the nominee doubts the science of climate change. This comes after Heitkamp met personally with Tillerson on January 18th. "I have known Rex Tillerson for years through our work with the Boy Scouts of America and know him to be honorable and patriotic". ExxonMobil's opposition to sanctions on Russia, Iran and other despotic countries also raised concerns for senators.

Of the two independents in the senate, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont voted against Rex Tillerson, but Senator Angus King of ME voted for him.

Additionally, Mr Trump has said he was open to lifting sanctions imposed on Russian Federation in 2014 for their illegal annexation of Ukraine's Crimea peninsula - which could directly benefit ExxonMobil, as Mr Tillerson brokered $500bn (£409bn) energy partnership with the country.
