"Eclipse is a word used to describe an astronomical event", the Japanese automaker continued. Mitsubishi says that the new model will broaden its SUV line-up and 'introduce a whole new audience to Mitsubishi Motors. AutoGuide.com will be reporting live from the show, and we will bring you more information about the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross when it is unveiled. The XR-PHEV came with a plug-in hybrid powertrain but it's believed that the Eclipse Cross will only use conventional petrol and diesel engines for cost reasons. Mitsubishi is keen to highlight the Eclipse Cross is "coupe-like" with "highly chamfered contours" and a "distinctive V-line in the rear quarter".

Mitsubishi have officially announced that their new Geneva-bound compact SUV will indeed utilize the Eclipse name.

We've yet to see full pictures of the new vehicle, but from the dark images we do have, we can see some rather neat design touches, such as the sharp crease down the flanks that runs through the door handles all the way to the rear light clusters.

China factory-gate inflation up for fifth straight month
China's consumer inflation also increased more than expected to around three-year high, according to a data released on Tuesday. Excluding oil prices and other volatile components such as food, core consumer price inflation held steady at 1.6 percent.

The Eclipse Cross will make its debut at the Geneva Auto Show starting March 7 to March 19 in Switzerland.

Bold expansion plans for Mitsubishi's crossover line-up are expected to see the Eclipse Cross followed within two years by a smaller sister model targeting the likes of the Nissan Juke, and including a full-electric drivetrain.
