An 8-year old girl was fatally shot after a she was involved in a auto accident early Saturday morning.
DeMaree Atkins, 8, was shot and killed in Houston just moments after getting into a auto crash with her mom. "She didn't. She was only eight", Thomas told KPRC. 'I pulled her out of the vehicle; I didn't even know she had been hit.
"The light was green, and as soon as I got to the light it turned yellow - I couldn't stop", Thomas said.
But before it drove off, the sedan pulled up next to the Honda and a woman leaned out with a gun.
Thomas said she thought her daughter was still sleeping when she pulled her out of the vehicle and put her on the ground, but then she saw blood on her jacket. Officers say two cars were headed south on West Fuqua when they crashed into a black Honda Accord going east along the Beltway feeder road.
The child was taken to Memorial Hermann where she later died.

According to police, the driver of the Pontiac jumped into the four-door sedan and fled the scene. That was when Thomas saw there was blood on her daughter's jacket.
"I wanted to see her teenage years", Thomas said.
Police said they don't know why the woman was shooting, but said both mom and daughter were not her intended targets. Police are offering a $5,000 reward leading to the arrest of the suspect or suspects.
