Browns coach Jackson likes private workouts, not pro days

One month before the National Football League draft, all options are on the table for the quarterback-needy Cleveland Browns, Coach Hue Jackson indicated in speaking to reporters Tuesday the National Football League owners meeting. Getting Myles Garrett and potentially a starting quarterback in the first round may not change the power rankings, but it will at least bring some talent to town to help the Browns improve upon that disgusting 1-15 record from a year ago.

On Sunday, Jackson was on NFL Network and he was asked by Steve Wyche in a segment of "Path to the Draft" if Osweiler would be on the roster.

It includes continuing to develop Cody Kessler, if other avenues to upgrade the position fail.

General manager Rick Smith traded Osweiler and a second-round pick in 2018 to Cleveland to get his $16 million guaranteed salary off the books and clear $10 million in cap space.

He made a decision to weigh in on the topic like the rest of us simpletons during Monday's NFL Owners Meetings.

And the Browns go through five quarterbacks in a span of eight games. They could use any of those choices or a later one on a quarterback. "I think you're always looking to improve that room because I think we all know that that's the driver of your football team".

Spending this year's top pick on Garrett should be a huge step in the right direction for a team desperate to give their fans a taste of the postseason.

"Until we have the guy that we feel comfortable with, that will be the face of our franchise, play quarterback the way we want them to play, we're going to keep searching", Jackson said. No matter if you get cut, blind-sided, you're going to get up and chase to the ball. Then you just need guys who can ball.

And a meeting between President Trump and the House Freedom Caucus, the locus of opposition to the bill, did not produce a deal . In other words, based on this reporting, the bill had very little chance of success.

"It's better when you get the opportunity to take a player to dinner, get extra time with him", Jackson said Tuesday.

"Not saying that it won't come up later on", Jackson said.

Oh, let me tell you, Hue. you're gonna LOVE HIM. "But at this point, he hasn't come up".

Jackson has not scouted Kaepernick the player since he was eligible for the draft in 2011.

"I think we will consider it if that was somebody that we were going to target", Jackson said. "But that hasn't been part of our process".

Jackson said the Browns plan to have Osweiler report to their headquarters in Berea for their offseason workout program April 17.

Osweiler was 5-2 as starter with the Broncos in 2015.
