Liverpool star facing month out after sustaining injury on worldwide duty

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana is a doubt for the Merseyside derby at home to Everton after suffering a thigh injury on England duty, a source has told ESPN FC.

Lallana has been a key player for Liverpool this season, as they look to secure a top four finish.

While Lallana played 66 minutes of England's 1-0 friendly loss to Germany and then played the full game against Lithuania, Gareth Southgate opted not to risk Manchester City's Raheem Sterling and John Stone in the first game to Germany. Now the Premier League's top goalscorer with 21 goals, Lukaku is in the form of his life with the Toffees and no-one would be surprised to see him find the back of the net once again come Saturday.

"Right now, Liverpool are higher in the league, that's the reality and that's all we have to think about".

Klopp has a decision to make on how to set up against Everton as a result.

Cristiano Ronaldo makes history with his national team
Portugal boss Fernando Santos warned his players that they were only halfway though the qualifying process. On Gomes, he added: "He's done very well since he started with the national team.

One possible solution could be to drop Philippe Coutinho into a deeper midfield role alongside Emre Can and Georginio Wijnaldum, both of whom have impressed of late.

Should Lallana return to fitness on schedule, he would be available for Liverpool's final four games of the season against Watford, his ex-employers Southampton, West Ham and Middlesbrough.

That would allow Divock Origi to come into the side and add some extra pace to the front three alongside Sadio Mané.

However, Press Association Sport understands Lallana sustained a kick during that match and is hampered by a thigh injury which prevented him from training on Tuesday with the rest of his team-mates who returned from worldwide duty. "It was the target at the beginning of the season and it's the one they have to continue working for".
