An Atlanta family is searching for a loved one who disappeared in the Central American country of Belize almost a week ago after leaving a bar with his girlfriend, who also is missing.

Francesca Matus, 52, from Markham, Ont., was in Belize with her American boyfriend Drew Devoursney, 36, when they disappeared last week.

According to Belize Police sources a postmortem examination was conducted today Tuesday at the Northern Regional Hospital where the pathologist certified their deaths as due to strangulation.

Matus had been in Belize since December, said friend Jackie Logan fighting back tears, where she would spend her winters enjoying life on her waterfront property before returning to the Toronto area. Matus' friend, Joe Milhoen, went to pick her up at her home in Corozal on Wednesday morning to drive her to the airport, but she and De Voursney were nowhere to be found. Matus was planning to return to Toronto and Drew planned to return to Georgia, to join David at a technical school in the Atlanta area. He noticed that Matus' white Isuzu Rodeo was not in the driveway. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the missing couple was found dead Sunday in a remote sugar cane field, along with Francesca's vehicle. Matus is the mother of two adult children who has a home in Georgina City south of Barrie.

However, one official warned that the plan hasn't yet been finalized and that the draft order is still being fine tuned. One conservative who saw the current draft told Politico , "the language is very, very strong ".

Nancy Rifenbark, a close friend of Matus's, also confirmed the news, which was circulating in local media reports Monday night. The Canadian Press has learned that the couple were found with their wrists duct taped.

If he was to die, she said she always expected it to be on the battlefield - not years later, while vacationing in a tropical paradise. The bar where the pair was last seen, Scotty's Crocodile Bar, is a little over six miles from Matus' home. Everybody who saw her together with DeVoursney said they looked happy together. "We don't know where he is, what's going on", mother Char DeVoursney told WSB-TV Sunday evening. "I want you to know that it is not over yet".

Char says Drew's younger brother, David, has headed to Belize to retrieve his body as funeral details are pending.

Friends and neighbours of a Keswick woman killed in Belize are stunned she won't be coming home. Though he was attempting to get a dive company started, DeVoursney was having difficulty finding work.
