Teen's Plea for Free Wendy's Nuggets Sets Retweet Record

Wilkerson's screenshot of the exchange has moved past Ellen DeGeneres' viral tweet from the 2014 Oscars on Tuesday with more than 3.4 million retweets. "So Carter.... "Consider it done" on our end - you've more than earned our respect...and the nuggets", writes Kurt Kane, chief marketing officer for Wendy's, in a statement. "That's good for the nuggets and good for a $100k donation to [the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.] Consider it done".

Twitter gave Wilkerson's account the highly coveted blue verified badge. "Other brands, celebrities, and consumers alike quickly took notice, and it soon became one of the most Retweeted Tweets ever".

With 3.42m Retweets, it has officially surpassed Ellen Degeneres' infamous Oscar selfie as the most Retweeted Tweet of all time.

Wilkerson appeared on DeGeneres' show last month. Wendy's donated $100,000 to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, a group that pairs foster children with homes.

Twitter created a #NuggsForCarter emoji. Wendy's, playing along, set the bar high: 18 million. This week, Wilkerson finally surpassed Ellen, and the Guinness Book of World Records acknowledged that he was the lone champion of retweets.

Meanwhile Carter has no plans to stop his campaign, pledging to try and get to 18 million.
