Local letter carrier Tim Walters says Residents are asked to leave their donation of non-perishable goods next to their mailbox before the delivery of the mail on Saturday, May 13. Acceptable food includes canned meats, fish, vegetables, fruit, soup, pasta, rice, cereal and juice. It has collected more than a billion pounds of food since its inception in 1993, a Postal Service news release said. "Our goal in Hawai'i is to top last year's totals, but we'll be happy to collect any amount of food". People should not donate food in glass or other breakable containers.

The 25th annual Letter Carriers Food Drive will be collecting food for local food banks across Snohomish County on Saturday, May 13. "Afterwards, both staff and volunteers will transport the donated food back the Food Bank where it will be sorted and distributed directly to food insecure families and individuals across Yolo County".

"The need out there is so great, there are so many people that need the food and we're just happy to be able to provide that assistance for them", said Curless.

"Right now, almost 20 percent of Bellingham utilizes our food bank", Cohen said.

On Saturday, you may see some neighbors put what looks like trash outside their house. The food goes to local distribution agencies. "The Letter Carrier's Food Drive helps the Food Bank to fill empty shelves and lend a hand to struggling families, children and elderly during up-coming summer months". Food banks and pantries often received the majority of their donations during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons.
