While Mania may look like a classic Sonic game, the telltale hints of its more powerful modern hardware are visible in some visual flourishes, such as the dissolving sand loop and the shattering mirror shards. Sega has announced that the retro-tastic Sonic the Hedgehog game will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch on August 15. To celebrate the announcement, we're treated to a brand-new trailer. A newly released trailer shows off such gameplay elements. The game features new side-scrolling levels and remixed versions of classic ones, making this game a love letter to the classic fans. The game will have new zones, as well as re-envisioned ones from the older games, with new paths and new secrets for players to discover. Sonic the hedgehog, Tails the fox and Knuckles the echidna will all appear in the game. They can also play with others, thanks to cooperative and competitive modes.
The game was put into development by Christian Whitehead, who previously worked on the Sonic CD revival for PC, mobile and consoles, as well as Headcannon and PagodaWest, working alongside Sega. "Welcome to Sonic Mania!".
