"Wonder Woman" Gets The Largest Ever Opening Weekend For Female Director

Posted June 05, 2017

"Wonder Woman" is the first major superhero film to be led by a woman, and it was women who helped the film to the top of the box office this weekend. For months leading up to its release, Wonder Woman was treated as a litmus test for the market viability of female creatives and female heroes.

"If it all goes according to plan, Jenkins is more than ready to return to the character for a contemporary-set Wonder Woman sequel", they revealed, adding that: "She and Gadot are contractually committed to a second film".

Gal Gadot is awesome as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman and gives her best performance yet. She's Wonder Woman. She's got to come to America. In 2015, only 1.9 percent of the year's largest grossing films were helmed by female directors, reported Maureen Down of the New York Times.

The film is skewing female, whereas most superhero films draw an audience that's at a least 60 percent male. This means that director Patty Jenkins - who came out fighting against an alleged former Warners exec a year ago - is having the biggest opening weekend for a female director in cinema history.

When the DCEU kicked off in earnest last spring with Batman V Superman, a number of movie fans compared the universe-building film to various MCU entries despite Warner Bros and Marvel Studios having taken different routes to establishing their franchises. Wonder Woman's action scenes, while not too many, always offer something wonderful for the fans to sit back, relax, and enjoy. "I am sure we will be seeing a lot more of Diana on the big screen". Wonder Woman is someone who wants to teach people about truth and love. He called the outstanding box office an "enormous relief". Now that it was released, the figure supported the poll.

With one day left in the weekend, 'Wonder Woman' passes the $200 million worldwide mark.
