Paris: Rafael Nadal warned of the threat presented by Dominic Thiem's "huge potential" ahead of their clash for a place in Sunday's French Open final.

Svitolina won the first set 6-3 and raced into a 5-1 lead in the second before Halep bounced back and took the second 7-6 (6).

The defeat means Djokovic, 29, has now surrendered all his majors having become the first man since 1969 to hold all four grand slam titles at the same time after triumphing at Roland Garros in 2016.

The Spaniard qualified for the semi-finals at Roland Garros for the 10th time on Wednesday after compatriot Pablo Carreno Busta retired with an abdominal injury while trailing 6-2, 2-0. Just a pretty bad set. "I think he's struggling a little bit since the beginning of the year, but he's in the semifinal".

"Trust me, I'm thinking about many things, especially in the last couple months", he said.

"It was ideal today, I'm very satisfied", said reigning US Open champion Wawrinka after a 12th win in 14 meetings with Cilic. You know, I'm trying to get better, trying to be on a high level again.

"It's a fact that I'm not playing close to my best", Djokovic said. I have to get through it and learn the lessons and come back stronger.

Certainly Thiem, who has lost all five of his previous meetings with the Serb, is showing no signs of concern. Beyond all that, as I said at the start of the tournament, everything that is being said and written. of course you have a job to do, but my job is to play tennis.

Meanwhile there were no such problems for world No.1 Andy Murray and nine-times champion Rafael Nadal, who both advanced to the semi-finals.

"I played well in all the matches here".

This will be Nadal's 10th trip to the French Open semifinals.

The 31-year-old Nadal has dropped only 22 games on his way to the semifinals, his most efficient run to the last four of any Grand Slam tournament. Murray advanced to his fourth straight semi-final in Paris, defeating Nishikori to avenge his loss to the Japanese star at the US Open a year ago.
