Trump helps commission USS Gerald R. Ford, newest aircraft carrier

"This is American craftsmanship at its biggest, at its best, at its finest", Trump said aboard the carrier earlier this year. "And we're getting bigger, and better and stronger every day of my administration".

But the new carrier, Trump said, will be key in any fight that may become necessary. "Win, Win! We're going to start winning again".

The Gerald R. Ford class incorporates advances in technology such as a new reactor plant, propulsion system, electric plant, Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS), Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG), machinery control, Dual Band Radar and integrated warfare systems.

"You are fulling your duty to this nation and now it is our job of the government to fulfill its duty to you", said Mr. Trump. "This is their worst nightmare".

Conservative columnist Rod Dreher similarly highlighted rule-of-law issues in a post on the subject for The American Conservative, arguing that what such a pardon "would reveal about how respect for the rule of law and basic republican order in the United States had decayed would be staggering". It also includes 38 stars to denote his place in the presidency, with 26 filled in to represent his World War II service aboard the CVL 26, or USS Monterey. The Navy says that will save more than $4 billion over the ship's 50-year lifespan.

At the time, the Ford was already two years behind schedule and the memo's release came just days before the Navy announced the carrier would not be ready before November 2016 as was previously promised. Ford became president in the aftermath of the Watergate scandal and served in the country's highest office from 1974-1977.

Taken on her own, the Ford is the most expensive ship of any kind ever built, with a construction cost of almost $13 billion.

President Donald Trump will help commission the USS Gerald R. Ford, a $12.9 billion warship that will officially be turned over to the Navy. Susan Ford Bales, President Ford's daughter, serves as the ship's sponsor.

The bill, submitted by the conservative ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, must now be approved by the upper house. Another amends the rules of the common law courts, whose chairs shall be appointed by the minister of Justice.

The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier is rigged with state-of-the-art technology with a capacity for more aircraft and weaponry than ever before. "Man our ship and bring her to life".

Capt. Richard McCormack will serve as the Ford's first commanding officer.

"The more bombs I get over the target area the more lethal I am", said Commanding Officer Capt. Rick McCormack. "That alone brings a huge sense of ownership and I couldn't be any prouder of the crew", she said.

The Ford-class is designed with a host of improvements over the Nimitz-class that should significantly improve quality-of-life for sailors and reduce maintenance costs for the Navy.

"Building CVN 78 has been an exciting journey", Mulherin said.

The Navy estimates the service branch will spend up to $43 billion on the construction of the first three Ford-class vessels to replace Nimitz-class carriers.

Until then, the Ford will remain the Navy's newest ship.

Distinguished members of the party offered remarks to honor the occasion.
