Officers are also hunting bubonic plague expert Wyndham Lathem, a 42-year-old microbiology professor at Northwestern University, in connection with the killing, the Press Association reported.

Police say the two men should be considered armed and unsafe.

This is a developing story.

Cornell-Duranleau, a native of Corunna, Mich., had jobs as a hair stylist after earning his cosmetology license at Stanley Harris School of Cosmetology in Holland, Mich., according to an obituary posted by his family. A brief death notice in the local newspaper noted that Cornell-Duranleau "died suddenly" on July 27.

Once inside, police found 26-year-old Trenton Cornell-Duranleau stabbed to death. Authorities believe they have fled Chicago, possibly in a rented gray 2017 Hyundai.

Lathem worked as a researcher at Northwestern for 10 years.

Court files give his address as Oxford University but his Facebook page says he lives in Swindon, Wiltshire.

He has been placed on administrative leave and is banned from all Northwestern campuses.

Warren is listed as senior treasury assistant at Somerville College, which is part of England's Oxford University network.

Cornell-Duranleau was dead inside the Grand Plaza apartment unit when police arrived.

It has yet to be determined how all three men knew each other, what led to the hairstylist being at Lathem's luxury apartment and what may have inspired the man's vicious murder. "At some point in the past few years he taught medical students or graduate students, never undergrad, " Cubbage said.
