Ousmane Dembele punished for absence as Borussia Dortmund reject Barcelona offer

Posted August 11, 2017

Barcelona is reported to have increased its bid for Coutinho to 90 million pounds (US$115 million) this week after two previous offers were rejected by the English Premier League side.

Dembele, who has made no secret of his desire to play for Barcelona, failed to show up for practice on Thursday. We do not know why.

Dembele, 20, is a target for Barcelona, along with Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho, as the Spanish club aim to find a replacement for Neymar following his £200m move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Goal understands Dembele wants to leave Dortmund, and the player himself has fuelled speculation regarding his future by deleting all references to German club from his social media profiles amid reports he has already agreed personal terms with Barcelona.

"As there is no other offer on the table, a transfer by the player to FC Barcelona is not at this time expected nor now very likely", a club statement said.

Dortmund have also rejected bids from Arsenal and PSG for Dembele this summer.

The former Ajax coach explained at a press conference that there have been several calls to locate Ousmane Dembele but all to no avail.

Despite Coutinho's interest in a move away, Liverpool are not expected to agree to a fee under €110m from the La Liga club.

Barcelona have been told they will have to pay £130m to secure the signing of Borussia Dortmund's Ousmane Dembele.
