The motorist found Theris after she "saw something moving in the bushes" while driving by and went back to investigate. "We did not interrogate her at that time", Sheriff Raymond Rodgers said.

Theris had survived for a month by eating berries and wild mushrooms and drinking from puddles. She was treated at a local emergency room and has been reunited with her family.

Since Lisa Theris was reported missing on July 23, law enforcement officers had been searching for her in a multi-county area in Alabama.

Bullock Co. Sheriff, Buck Rodgers says that Theris lost all sense of direction in the forested areas after she fled from two men who were burglarizing a chasing camp.

Without her phone or purse she had no way of contacting anyone, and so her disappearance had become a cause for concern.

'She called us and told us she had located the missing person.

Officials say she had no idea the men meant to commit a robbery, and not wanting to be an accessory to a crime, the 25-year-old radiology student ran away from the men into the nearby woods.

We wanted to make sure her health was in the best shape and in the days to come, we'll get some answers", Sergeant Chad Faulkner, the lead investigator on the case said, praising her resiliency. The location where Garner found Theris was another 30-plus miles southeast of the location she fled from the vehicle, and it's unclear how she traveled that far. "So when I got word she was found alive, my whole world flipped upside down again". She said she spent the last four weeks trying to navigate her way out of the woods but ended up going around in circles.

Her brother, Will has also paid tribute to his sister's resilience on Facebook with a picture of her recovering in hospital.

Faulkner said Theris" survival has been a "relief' to the entire department.

The two men, Manley Davis, 31, and Randall Oswald, 36, were reportedly arrested for allegedly stealing $40,000 (£31,000) worth of items that included ATVS (quad bikes) and chainsaws. She is severely weakened, she is in pain, she is emaciated. The sister added that not a single inch of Lisa's body went unaffected by the month spend in the wilderness.

"28 days stranded out in the wilderness and Lisa is still standing, strongest person I know", said Theris. "The next few weeks will be rough, but she is handling it all like a trooper and our family will continue to do all we can to help".
