Slovenia has won its first European basketball championship, defeating Serbia 93-85 behind 35 points by Goran Dragic.

He scored a game-high 35 points.

Dragic, who plays for the Miami Heat in America's National Basketball Association (NBA), won the tournament's Most Valuable Player award. In the middle of the final quarter the Serbs after a long chase took the lead, but Slovenia immediately organized dash 12:0 and shut down all questions about the winners of Eurobasket 2017.

The Dragon went off for a whopping 20 points alone in the 10-minute second period to help Slovenia build a nine-point lead at intermission.

"We gave them a lot of transition points".

It is rare to say that a 28-year-old is facing a career defining fight; however, this appears to be the case for Billy Joe. He came into this fight looking out of shape and his performance was nowhere near that of a world champion.

Luka Doncic's injury threatened to derail Slovenia, who were up by eight midway through the third when the 18-year-old went down.

Bogdan Bogdanovic, who is set to join the Sacramento Kings next season, led Serbia with 22 points. "He told me 'Be prepared for the press conference and say something deep and smart.' Well, I can't say anything".

Earlier, Spain defeated Russian Federation 93-85 to take third place, with 51 points coming from the Gasol brothers, Pau (26) and Marc (25).

For Russia, point guard Alexey Shved's 18 points and center Timofey Mozgov's 14 points were not enough to beat Spain.
