Bengaluru cylinder blast kills five

Three persons were killed and as many got injured when a portion of a residential building collapsed in Ejipura area on Monday due to a cylinder blast, police said here.

George announced after her she was extricated from the debris: "The state government will adopt the girl who was rescued, and will take care of all her expenses".

Authorities fear death toll would rise as some people are reported to be trapped under the debris.

It was first thought a cylinder blast had caused the collapse but the Karnataka home minister Ramalinga Reddy seemed to refute the theory.

Rescue personnel pulled out three people from under the debris and rushed them to nearby hospitals. A five-year-old girl was among the miraculous rescue, while the parents died in the incident. They heard a blast and the 20-year-old building was reduced to a pile of rubble.

Two children aged 12 and 3 were among the seven others injured in the incident that occurred between 6 and 7 a.m.in Ejipura area. Six bodies, including that of two women, have been recovered.

As per a TOI report, the victims were identified as Sharavana, his eight-month-pregnant wife Ashwini, Kalavathi, Ravichandran, Hariprasad and Pavan Kalyan. "The building collapsed", an official from the Commissioner of Police office said. "So it is unlikely that the buildings collapsed due to blast", Reddy later added.

At least 40 fire-fighters and NDRF personnel were carrying out rescue operation.
