The NSE index Nifty was trading up by 71.50 points, or 0.70 percent, at 10,238.95 after making its new high of 10,242.45 in intra-day trade early. It surpassed its previous record closing of 10,153.10 hit on September 18.
The benchmark BSE index closed higher by 250.47 points or 0.78 per cent at 32,432.69.
Indian equities ended higher on Monday. Hong Kong's Hang Seng, however, was down 0.16 per cent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 30.71 points, or 0.13% to end at 22,871.72, and the S&P 500 gained 2.24 points or 0.09 % to 2,553.17. "Nifty has witnessed sharp upside momentum over the last two days and made a new all time high of around 10,191 levels", said Jasani.
Cooling of food prices helped ease India's annual rate of inflation based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) in September to 2.6 per cent, official data showed on Monday. The rupee appreciated by another 25 paise to 64.68 against the USA currency in early trade at the interbank forex market today on dollar selling by banks and exporters. "Investors are sitting with a hope that the ongoing quarter result season is likely to be better as compared to Q1 due to a positive start which gives leeway to the valuation".

Nifty Auto, Metal, pharma and Realty indices gained 1-2 percent while Nifty Bank ended flat and PSU Bank was down 0.2 percent. However, Axis Bank fell 2.07 pct, Reliance by 1.11 pct and SBIN 0.51 pct.
