Collins: Clinton Camp Must Explain Dossier Payment

Posted October 31, 2017

Clinton's campaign chairman, John Podesta, and former Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz privately denied to congressional Russian Federation investigators that they had any knowledge about an arrangement to pay for opposition research on Trump, three sources familiar with the matter told CNN earlier this week.

"Never seen such Republican ANGER & UNITY as I have concerning the lack of investigation on Clinton made Fake Dossier (now $12,000,000?), the Uranium to Russian Federation deal, the 33,000 plus deleted Emails, the Comey fix and so much more", Trump wrote.

That definition - "coordination" - would seem to make the Democrats ripe for special counsel Robert Mueller to investigate, ex-Trump aides say. CNN reported that a federal grand jury had approved an indictment, although details of the possible charges and the name of a defendant remained unclear.

For example, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, a Republican from Iowa, has voiced concerns the the FBI might have started its investigation into Trump and Russian Federation using this opposition research, tainting it from the start. "There is so much GUILT by Democrats/Clinton, and now the facts are pouring out".

Democrats have downplayed the funding aspect of the dossier, which was funded by an unnamed "never Trump" Republican in the primary and then the Democrats through the general election, as they argue to content of the memo is more important. Trump has repeatedly denied allegations of collusion with Russian Federation during and since the campaign.

On Sunday, Trump went after Mueller's investigation again.

"We ought to instead focus on the outrage that the Russians meddled in our elections", said Portman, who serves on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Fusion GPS, which hired Steele to gather information, was first employed to investigate Trump during the Republican primaries by the Washington Free Beacon, a conservative publication that receives financial support from billionaire GOP donor Paul Singer, according to two people familiar with Singer.

Fusion then hired British intelligence officer Christopher Steele to unearth Trump's skeletons.

He said: "Contrary to what many have suggested, the President's comments today are unrelated to the activities of the special counsel, with whom he continues to cooperate".

The research effort expanded in March 2016 under financing from Democrats.

Her remarks were prompted by new revelations linking the file to the Democratic Party and the Clinton campaign, Collins, who is a member of the Senate's Intelligence Committee, was emphatic that Hillary Clinton's election campaign manager, John Podesta, and the former head of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), Debbie Wasserman Schultz, "absolutely need to be recalled".

Earlier this month, House and Senate Republican leaders announced they would investigate the uranium deal, and the House Oversight Committee launched a probe into how the FBI investigated Clinton during the campaign.
