Penn State And Michigan State Got Stuck In A Never-Ending Weather Delay

Posted November 06, 2017

Thanks to heavy rain and some sparse lightning strikes, the earliest the Nittany Lions will be back on the field is 5:30 p.m., according to officials at Michigan State. The Nittany Lions outscored their opponents 104-3 in the first quarter through the first eight games of the season.

Matt Coghlin kicked a 34-yard field goal as time expired - seven hours after the game began - on Saturday night in a game that was delayed almost 3 1/2 hours by severe weather in the second quarter.

Penn State will look to finish the season strong, with three of the final three games taking place in Beaver Stadium. The Spartans leading receiver, Felton Davis, had a huge day with 12 receptions, 181 yards and a touchdown.

Penn State's Trace McSorley was 26-for-47 passing for 381 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.

The tie didn't last long as Penn State scored on the following possession and benefited from poor tackling by Michigan State. He had 165 yards receiving against Northwestern, a school freshman record.

But following his 33-for-39, 328-yard, 4-touchdown (and 95-rushing yard) performance in Ohio State's 39-38 victory over Penn State last weekend, many are already linking the Buckeyes quarterback to college football's highest individual honor. Instead of entering the most important part of the season with a well-defined hierarchy of teams, the conference is a jumbled mess. That loss also severely damaged the Nittany Lions' spot in the polls.

Saturday's marked the second weather-delayed game of the season for Michigan State, following their 30-27 win at Minnesota on October 14, in which the start was bumped back.
