You can now make money by playing your PlayStation (but not much)

Before you get too carried away, it's not much.

Sony is beefing up their Sony Rewards program with brand new Rewards Passes that can be redeemed for PlayStation Store credit (or free games).

Earning 10 platinum trophies - typically obtained by earning every other trophy in a single game - will reward you with 1,000 points. According to the rewards site, you can earn 100 points for 100 silver trophies, 250 points for 25 gold trophies and 1,000 points for 10 platinum trophies.

Sony just updated their Rewards Program to include earning points through trophies for gamers who are willing to collect them.

Carolina Panthers Trade WR Kelvin Benjamin
The 26-year-old was drafted by the Panthers 28th overall in the 2014 draft where Beane was the director of football operations. But Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, who is a big fan of the Carolina Panthers, didn't like the trade one bit.

Entertainment and electronics major Sony is currently rolling out a new PlayStation rewards program that is available exclusively in the United States, as of now. With this program, you'll need to do that for 10 different games before you get a payout. Maybe you have a plethora of easy games to platinum on hand that will let you earn some quick cash. The Xbox 360 came out in 2006 and that system launched with achievements.

Microsoft Xbox boss Phil Spencer heard about it, and has tweeted a very gracious comment about Sony's new program.

If Microsoft does end up adding this feature in, it would be sad to see players not be able to use the gamerscore they have accumulated over 12 years.

Outside of perhaps a cool helmet for an avatar or a new background theme for your menus, console gaming trophies (achievements if you speak Xbox) have been more about personal satisfaction than anything else, but that's changing for PlayStation users. All we know right now is it's being looked into and that's okay for now.
