UP Congress blames BJP and media for distorting civic polls result

However, Akhilesh Yadav did not agree that the BJP had improved its showing in the civic polls, that came eight months after Adityanath was sworn in as chief minister. Also, BSP chief Mayawati threw an open challenge to BJP to hold the 2019 LS polls using ballot papers.

"If the BJP claims that they enjoy the mandate of the people and the entire country is with them, then they should set aside EVMs and hold elections through ballot paper".

Rejecting charges of irregularities in Urban Local Bodies elections and tampering of Electronic Voting Machines levelled by Bahujan Samaj Party, the State BJP accused Opposition parties of "spreading misinformation to hide their frustration" after losing the ULB poll.

BJP leaders here said that the party would analyse the civic polls results at length over the next few days.

Supporting his statement, party leader and former UP minister Azam Khan said the BJP won wherever EVMs were used and SP won wherever ballot papers were used. Similarly in Nagar Panchayat chairman's post, BJP won 100 seats and lost 337 seats while in Nagar Panchayat members, it lost 4728 seats and won just 662 seats.

FBI Says Background Checks For Black Friday Gun Purchases Hit Record High
Prospective gun owners filed 203,086 requests to the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). Once again this year, Black Friday shoppers were also on the hunt for bargains on handguns and rifles.

The BJP could win only 17.53 % seats of the nagar palika parishad members, the data revealed.

The official break-up of the Uttar Pradesh elections confirmed the figures viral on the social media since early morning showing the BJP's poor show in all polls, except those of mayors, conducted through ballot papers.

"We fought the urban local body polls in Uttar Pradesh on party symbol and I am happy to say that along with the Dalits, people belonging to backward castes, upper castes and minorities, especially Muslims, also voted for us in large numbers", she claimed.

"BJP has only won 15% seats in ballot paper areas and 46% in EVM areas", Mr. Yadav said on Twitter. "The results haven't been out yet and they have already started making excuses for their defeat". "And it was because of the EVMs that Mayawati came to power in 2007 in UP, while Akhilesh emerged victorious in 2012".

State spokesman of the party, Rajendra Chowdhary said the BJP had trumpeted the results as its victory though this "was neither the truth nor the exact reality".
