Butler University announced Friday it would receive two new donations to the Butler Rising campaign, totaling $10.3 million.

The grants come from the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation and Butler alumnus Frank Levinson, class of 1975, and bring the campaign’s total to $122.5 million, out of a goal of $125 million.

Last Thursday 50 students at a Boulder, Colo. high school walked out of class when the pledge of allegiance was recited. Instead of being disciplined like they should have been, the students were instead praised for standing up for their beliefs.

This was the most surprising aspect of the story that I read. The Associated Press reported that the principal was “proud of the students for standing up for their beliefs.”

Despite powerful individual performances and a rally to overcome a 2-0 deficit, the women’s volleyball team lost 3-2 to conference foe UIC, 30-26, 30-22, 24-30, 15-30 and 15-8 on Wednesday in Chicago.

Phillip Armstrong bows his head to pray. In a place typically known for its adult content and explicit language, he is happy to get the chance to convey the message of God. He is about to go onstage at the Phoenix, ironically, a former church that has been renovated into a theater.
