Droid RAZR – Motorola Invites Us to Spend

by on November 6, 2011

It’s been a tough decade for Motorola, who has fallen from grace following an impressive run, and they are now desperately struggling to claw their way back to the top. With the latest line of smartphones, it seems that they’ve got a good chance to achieve that, particularly the Droid RAZR which goes on the pre-order on Verizon. It is of course and amazing accomplishment for Motorola to stir up the interest as much as they did, but for a rather steep price of $299, Razr might prove a bit pricey for prospective customers.

The problem is that they will compare it with the top of the line smartphones, which can be problematic, since Motorola RAZR is more expensive than both iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S 2. What’s inside doesn’t fully justify the price, because although this is an extremely powerful gadget, it is still not better than either of those. The 4.3 inch Super AMOLED display is just as good as Samsung’s, but it sports a lower pixel density that the iPhone 4S. In terms of design, this is one beautiful smartphone, thinner and lighter than the competition, which is definitely a plus for the ones who place the emphasis on aesthetics.

Unfortunately, in terms of operating system, Motorola RAZR runs on Android 2.3.5, which despite being the latest version of Gingerbread, is still no Ice Cream Sandwich. Since this is supposed to be the newest and coolest kid in the block, this shortcoming is not something that customers will take lightly, especially those savvy ones who want to have the latest in everything. The dual-core CPU is fast enough to stay on par with Samsung’s flagship smartphone and to outshine Apple’s very best, and the 1GB of RAM makes it certain that Motorola Razr will be second to none of them.
